Frank Marshall and His Eyebrows

eyebrows-006S

I don’t know the reason but today on almost every figure that has raising eyebrows we see the windshield wiper type effect. I don’t know about you but to me this is just the wrong way for an eyebrow to look. Eyebrows do not move from the far corner of the forehead and move upwards in a 45 degree movement. That is just wrong and for some reason that is what we see.

Frank Marshall the genius that he was corrected this by the use of a tiny cut out wedge on the side of the forehead in which the little piece of metal rod would ride giving the 45 degree pitch. The the eyebrow on the forehead moved in a more natural ( correct style. The small piece of metal was painted to match the skin tone then the metal shaped eyebrow was soldered on and painted.

Frank also realized that he could get the same effect without the v wedge cut and just the piece of metal coming out of the side of the head and then bent to the right position to give the correct throw. I have pictured this as well.

I have also included just painted eyebrows done by Marshall to show you that he shaped his raising eyebrows just about the same.

From a very slight distance you only see the eyebrows moving up and down and you do not see the metal ends. Also you do not have the incorrect windshield wiper type movement.

Foy Brown A Great Hand Puppet

hand-puppet-011S

Foy Brown created some very unique looking ventriloquist figures for sure but many of you may never have seen his hand puppets as they are not all that common. The hand puppet I am showing you all today is a great example of Foy’s carving ability yet is still has him unmistakable look.

When you look at the picture of Foy Brown in front of his puppet stand you will see that this little fellow is in the picture. I was extremely happy to be able to add this little fellow to my collection a few years ago. Before I owned it it was owned by Todd Oliver who still has a number of Foy’s creations.

Bill Boley's Dummy Den

After the listing on the blog of the pictures of a young Bill Boley i was asked if I had any pictures of Bill’s Dummy Den. I had to go and search through all my old mail but I knew that Charlene Boley had sent me a couple pictures of the Dummy Den and I did in fact find them.

These are after Charlene had already started to liquidate Bill’s collection. I own some of these figures today and they are part of the permanent Ventriloquist Central Collection.

Information For The Ventriloquist Central Blog

I was sent in a very good question asking me where we get all the pertinent information that is shared with the ventriloquist community and the answer is actually two fold.

First and foremost to all of you who send in great information for us to post and share with the community a big thanks. Without you this site just would not exist. So please keep the information and links coming.

Second is the fact that we subscribe to a few services that automatically send us information throughout the day when anything about ventriloquism is published in a newspaper, on television and also on the Internet. We do get a lot of nonsense mixed in the foray but there have been some great things which we have shared over the past with all of you.

So keep sending in information and watching for all that is happening in the world of ventriloquism.
