Collecting and Jealousy Even in Ventriloquism…Response

I just wanted to thank everyone that wrote comments to my initial blog and also all those who emailed me privately on this subject (if you missed the blog, click here).

I am so pleased that everyone understood what I was going through and gave such positive feedback on this subject.

It really only takes a few to cause one to have pain about what you are doing but the fact that I was able to vent ( pun intended ) really made me feel at ease so again THANKS TO EVERYONE

A Christmas Letter I Received Here at Ventriloquist Central

With the holiday season totally upon us today in the mail a Christmas card arrived address to me and my wife Helen. I did not recognize the senders name nor address on the envelope so I asked Helen if she did but she didn’t either.

Helen proceeded to open the envelope and there was a plain Christmas card saying Merry Christmas and peace. It was unsigned. Inside the card was a folded letter addressed to us and it was SO special I had to share it with everyone.

Before you read the letter let me tell you that my son Jason is a professional magician and works nights performing close up table magic at restaurants.

He also does parties and weddings and corporate functions and magic is his life. He started doing magic at age nine and never stopped ever and always said he wanted to be a magician and this is what he is. He is now thirty years old and I can call him a magician.

Now read the letter and this is the best Christmas gift a parent can ever receive.

Ventriloquist Jay Johnson Artist Supreme

ventriloquist-jayjohnson

As you can tell from my blog title you know how I feel about Jay Johnson as a Ventriloquist.

He is one of the best in the world and has done so much for all of us that love the art. I was fortunate to see his one man play “The Two & Only” quite a while before it went to Broadway and then won him the Tony award. I was enthralled with his story and his fabulous technique.

I am a fan of Jay’s blog and follow it daily and he has shown some fantastic art work but on his blog for December 8th, 2010, I went nuts.

His entry on that day was HIS rendition of a 1950’s style poster for a ventriloquism horror movie. I loved it and just had to tell all of you that come to my blog, you must go to Jay’s blog and see this poster.

Jay if you are reading this ……FANTASTIC

Ventriloquist Figure Builder, Scott Bryte

Scott Bryte is a truly amazing ventriloquist figure builder (as you are about to find out).

Steve and I met Scott at the 2007 ConVENTion and we were both amazed at his work.

I received the following email from Keith Suranna along with some pictures of Scott’s work:

Hi Dan,

I hope all is well with you. Since you are an advocate of the work of Scott Bryte, and since I discovered his work through you and Ventriloquist Central, I’m wondering if you’d be interested in seeing, and possibly sharing with your readers, Scott’s building process.

He is currently building a figure for me, which should be completed by the first of the year. At my request, Scott has been taking photos of each stage of his building process; and I thought that you and your readers would be interested in seeing how Scott, one of the few makers of hand-carved basswood figures, works.

Personally, I am finding Scott’s process fascinating, as I have wanted a custom-made, hand-carved wooden figure since I was 15 (I’m 43 now)!

Best, Keith Suranna

As I said, Scott does amazing work. Keith has agreed to keep sending us photos of Scott’s progress. Thanks Keith for sharing with everyone.

Stay tuned for more…..
