A Brant Gilmer “McElroy Style” Figure
Brant Gilmer is one of the few today that I would consider to be like an old time figure maker. He does it all from carving the wood, installing the mechanics and painting the figure when completed. This is an example of a McElroy style done by Brant.
Ventriloquist Jim Barber of the “Hamner Barber Theater” in Branson, MO, posted an article yesterday about a restoration he did on a ventriloquist dummy form the 1930’s.
Not only did he do the restoration but there is a great story about how it all happened.

What could you buy in 1938 back then?
I was so excited after I had my cataract surgery on June 1 because I could see perfectly again. All that was excitement was smashed on June 27th because on that morning I started to see things floating in my newly repaired eye.
I happened to be out of town but called my Ophthalmologist and she told me she wanted to see me the moment I returned which was on the 30th.
