Edgar Bergen Ventriloquist and Worker in Wood

Edgar Bergen Ventriloquist and Worker in Wood

I just had to share this with everyone because it is so interesting. As we all know Mortimer was originally created from a sketch which Edgar provided to Virginia Austin Curtis. She in turn created the figure Mortimer for Edgar in Plastic wood. Mortimer was never a wood carved figure.

Here we have a great article boasting about Edgar’s great wood working shop and a picture of a Mortimer he is creating out of wood.

Do we believe this?? Great publicity from a master of the same.

Edgar knew how to use publicity!

  2. Ray Guyll says:

Bob Wallace did carve a wooden Mortimer for Bergen but it was never animated and turned into a working figure. The Mort at the Vent Haven was a casting from the wooden Wallace sculpture.
