Charlie McCarthy Clock By Gilbert Clock Corporation

Today I am very happy to show you a most unusual item that is super rare to find today. This is the Charlie McCarthy clock made by the Gilbert Co Corp. in Connecticut.

The popularity of Charlie McCarthy was so great that it seemed every kind of product wanted to get on the band wagon and use the iconic figure to make sales of their items.

This clock was licensed to use the face of Charlie McCarthy and it told time, had an alarm and also Charlie’s mouth opened and closed with the ticking of the clock. These clocks were sold in the 1940’s or so and not in very large numbers.

I knew of only one other of these clocks and it was in the collection of noted ventriloquial historian Dave Erskine. I am not sure if he sold it or not but here is another.

I was in the antique clock trade for 25 years and never came across one so I am happy to show you all one now.
