Ventriloquist Ony Carcamo Entertains in Indonesia

Our good friend Ony Carcamo sent this in to me and I agree it should be shared with all our readers here on Ventriloquist Central.

Hi Dan,

I just thought I’d share this with you. You may want to add this to your site if you so desire.

I recently represented my country, the Philippines, and performed in a puppetry festival in Jakarta, Indonesia. Before my show there I first asked around whether they knew ventriloquism or not. And I was surprised to know that very few of them had an idea what vent was, since puppetry for the Indonesians usually meant their wayang golek (rod puppetry) or wayang kulit (shadow puppetry). In fact I only know of one Indonesian vent, our online pal Budi Haha.

So what I did was I started my show explaining to the audience what vent is all about. I even taught them some tips if ever they wanted to learn vent. Then I did my set. The Indonesians and some foreign people there were fantastic audience! It really felt great sharing and exposing our art to an audience who knew very little about what we’re doing.

Here’s an article from the The Jakarta Post:
