Ventriloquist David Malmberg’s Leonard Figure

001Len 1

Many years ago David Malmberg, a professional ventriloquist, made a deal with Dan Payes buying the rights from Dan Payes for a Thurston style ventriloquist figure with only one eye open.

David has used that figure for a long time and then he decided he wanted to have that exact figure done in carved basswood.

I introduced David to Ray Guyll and after some time David experienced what I always say about receiving a package from Ray and Barbara Guyll, Christmas morning.

Below are pictures that Ray Guyll sent showing the wood carved Leonard figure David now has in his possession.

Can I say awesome?!

Beautiful work! Love how the jaw slots and teeth were refined, same goes to the ears. Amazing paint! Ray and Barb are the best out there!

  2. Austin Phillips says:

Not to mention most of the other features were improved!

  3. Ray Guyll says:

Also David wanted a larger head. The new Leonard head is about 12 % larger than the original. As I recall when David first contacted me He wanted a head close to the same size as his Spencer figures. Also he gave me artistic license to change a few things.

That’s awesome! I was going to say, at first sight, i figured you changed a thing or two here and there, but when I compared the 2 figures’ pictures side by side, you can tell this is a completely new figure! Beautiful work, Ray, Really great stuff! I’d love to see more!
