I wonder if this particular Coats figure was made and sold under S & C (Stadelman (Paul) & Coats (Jack)). If so “Coats” is not on the control stick. The figure I have which Jack Coats made in Nov. 1969 (there is a number on the back of the neck), was sold by Paul Stadelman and was in the Essancee (S & C) catalog as “Rocky”. My figure was also on the cover of “You Can Be a Ventriloquist” by Robert Hill.

I don’t think Jack stamped the headsticks on his earlier figures. I have one from 1968 that doesn’t have his name branded into the headstick…. no business card in the head either. Just his signature and the date painted in. The number on the back of the neck on the Stadleman figures was put their by Paul according to Jack. Paul advertised that he kept the serial number on file in case of theft. Jack told me he had nothing to do with it. I also have a 1972 figure with his business card (different from his cards from 1970) and his name branded into the headstick. Don’t know when he started this. I had a figure from 1970 and it didn’t have the brand.
