Popularity of a Character

So you want to find a ventriloquist figure to start your career, well for most of the baby boomers that character was Jerry Mahoney or Danny O’Day. Although Charlie McCarthy was still around he certainly was no longer in the spotlight in the 1950’s and 1960’s. We all grew up looking at that Sears & Roebuck Catalogue drooling over our favorite characters pictured and readily available for our parents to purchase for us for our birthday present or Christmas or Hanukah present.

Stream ahead to today. Well it seems that Jeff Dunham’s character Walter is getting the same kind of want, which is self evident by just looking at the wanted classified ads on this site.

Today the Jerry Mahoney and Danny O’Day characters are still loved by us old timers but Walter, Peanut and Jose Jalapeno are for sure the modern day hit with the young folk. At this point in time these characters are not available for purchase as a ventriloquist figure or puppet but I do believe that with the surge of Jeff Dunham’s popularity it will only be a matter of time before Jeff releases the likeness of his characters for production. In my estimation, it would make him a small fortune. I certainly would want his characters for my collection!!

So keep an eye out and make sure you ask Jeff every time you go to see him perform or see him at the Vent convention, “When will you release your characters for sale?”

P.S.  It is a new year and I am starting it off by offering the vent community this spectacular figure at the modest price…..

  1. Hi Dan,

I’m a ventriloquist and have several characters in my show. What’s your opinion regarding the addition of new characters: Do you develop a voice and personality first, and then build/buy a character to fit it? Or, do you build/buy the figure first?

    Thanks,

    Justin

  2. Dan Willinger says:

I believe it is always best to develop a character then find the figure to fill that bill.

    Hi Dan,

There is a 18″ Jeff Dunham’s Walter on Ebay right now for $99.99 with 3
days left to bid on. The add does not say who makes the figure.

    Thanks Rick,
