Personal Issues of a Ventriloquist Figure Collector

I don’t normally talk about personal happenings but I suffered a scare early Wednesday morning. I woke up to severe lower abdominal pain at 4:30 am. I thought it was gas and shrugged it off and went back to sleep. I awoke again at 7:00 am but the pain was still there in my lower left abdomen. Knowing that my appendix is on the right side I still felt it must be either gas or constipation.

I went through the day with work as regular but the pain worsened and by 2:30 pm I called the doctor’s office and they immediately said for me to come in for an examination. Helen of course was upset that I was in pain but held my hand and went with me. I calmed her down and said it would be nothing.

I had to sit for 2 hours before I got seen but the doctor did the exam and said that since there are no other organs on the lower left side of the abdomen it had to be something in the colon. I then had to have blood drawn and it was checked for white count. A high white blood cell count means there is an infection. Bingo mine was high. The doctor said she believed I have what is called Diverticulitis, a condition where small areas of muscle weakness in the wall of the colon progress to pouches. Sometimes small particles of waste lodge in the pouches and become infected.

I was put on 2 antibiotics which I have to take for 10 days and the doctor told me these antibiotics kill anything that lives in the lower part of the colon. Well it must work because today the pain has already subsided. I also had a cat scan done and those results will come to me early next week. Hopefully nothing else will be found. I am happy I caught this early and used the signal (pain) which means something is wrong. Hopefully after the antibiotics are done I won’t have to suffer with this again.

This is the reason that you must have roughage in your diet. Now back to Ventriloquism and figure collecting!!

    Dan,

SO glad to hear it sounding like you’ll be ok! Glad of that. I firmly believe our bodies tell us lots of things we never listen to. I think we all need to be better listeners. Glad you are! Feel better soon!

Glad you’re O.K.! We’ll pray for a good report all the way around. Take good care of yourself, Dan – your wife and your den full of “kids” want you around a long time. Pastor John in VA (P.S. – and so do the rest of us)

  4. It’s Miss Nutter getting back at you!

    Feel better pal!

  5. Dan,

glad you LISTENED to your body. So often, people ignore what it’s telling them. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
