Ventriloquist David Turner Performing

Ventriloquist David Turner

I met a lot of people this past summer at the Vent Haven ConVENTion. One such person was Troy Anderson and his family. Troy sent in this great video with clips of ventriloquist David Turner performing along with this email:

“My wife & I got a chance to catch David Turner performing at the Wilson County Fair just east of Nashville, this summer. It was fun visiting with David and his wife between sets. I shot some video of his performance. Unfortunately they had a large speaker near his performance area that always seemed to announce The Gunfight At The O.K Corral will start blah blah blah . . right on one of his punchlines or a poignant moment in a song, not to mention the rock band across the way. Like a true pro David didn’t skip a beat. I put together a short montage of clips minus the announcements. We were very impressed. He is a talented guy. Not only does he build his own figures & have a great singing voice, but just watch the lip control.”

After you watch this video I’m sure you’ll agree that David is indeed a very talented guy. On a personal note, I especially liked the figure that David carved and had at the ConVENTion (pictured above).

Thanks Troy for sharing.

Happy Veterans Day from Ventriloquist Central

veterans-day
Veterans Day
Honoring All Who
Have Served

Today, in America, this happens to be one of the most important days in my mind, the observance of Veterans day because of the sacrifice that so many American men and women have made to keep our country the free democracy in which we live.

I am a Navy veteran of the Vietnam era and I agree with the words that President Obama spoke yesterday when he addressed the attendees at the Fort Hood memorial. To paraphrase, it makes no difference which generation of military you are today’s is just as important as the past.

But this is a celebration of those who made the ultimate sacrifice and we at Ventriloquist Central honor you all!!

Steve Hurst, Webmaster and Ventriloquist Figure Builder

steves-figure01

steves-figure02
New Owner of Ventriloquist Figure built by Steve Hurst

I take great pleasure in writing this today because of my webmaster and good friend Steve Hurst. Not only is Steve my webmaster, but also a figure maker. Up till now, he’s only done private work but now has sold his first figure to the public. He had it listed on the Ventriloquist Marketplace (click here to see)

This figure made the journey to France and the new owner of this cute little fellow is bubbling over with glee about him. Just read the attached letter that he sent to Steve and look at the pictures. To me I even think that the figure looks French.

“Hi Steve,
Your little boy is very amazing! I send you pics of me and my new friend! I’m very happy to do puppetry with him!
Thanks,
Mehdi”

I have known for quite some time that Steve was a great mechanic and this is the proof in the pudding. If you haven’t made a figure on your own and want to you must get Steve’s course “The Ultimate Guide To Building Your Own Ventriloquist Figure, Vol. 1” because then you will be able to do what he does.

Way to go Steve!!

CIVEAR …. Circle of Argentine Ventriloquists

Our good friend Marcelo from Canada / Argentina sent me in an email explaining about CIVEAR and I had to share it with everyone who reads my blog.

Instead of me trying to explain it, just read the Marcelo’s email below and click on the link and see what is happening in the Southern Western Hemisphere concerning ventriloquism…..

Hello Dan:
First of all, let me tell you how much I keep enjoying your blog, I read it ever day, I never miss it. Thanks for all the wonderful information and opinions, we always learn from them.

I don’t know if it would be interesting for the readers of your blog, but would you consider to write an entry about the CIVEAR?. I’ll explain you what it is; CIVEAR stands for (in spanish) Circle of Argentine Ventriloquists. A friend, Miguel Angel Lembo, and myself, created it back in 1999 (a couple of months before my emmigrating to Canada). It is the ONLY association of its type in ALL Latin America (and I could include Spain too), it just passed the ten years mark and it’s stronger than ever. The Circle meets the first Monday of every month (except January and February, the hottest summer months in Argentina) and in every meeting there are lectures, information, event planning, etcetera. Ventriloquists from all over the world are invited to visit its website and send photos and information to its webmaster.

Miguel Angel Lembo, the president of the Circle, is not only a great friend of mine and a heck of a ventriloquist (and musician and composer and writer), but he won many awards these past years. He has a great technique, he can sing with his dummy using two voices at the same time (believe it or not, sometimes THREE voices, when he sings with two figures) like Fred Ketch or Bill Boley. He is the author of one of the very few books on ventriloquism written in spanish, and for the next edition I’m writing a little chapter on how to make a simple figure using papier mache.

If you like to take a look at the website, the address is www.civear.org.ar , it’s a great looking website. So: a quick spanish lesson is in order, to better navigate the website: RESEÑA= History; NOSOTROS= We ( as in “who are we”); CIVEMUNDO= international vents who posted their photo in the website; ACERCATE= join us; SERVICIOS= guess that one, Dan, it’s easy!; ARTICULOS= articles; RECUERDOS= memories, mementos; LINKS= well… links. To go from page to page: MAS= more, next page; VOLVER= go back (to previous page).

Please, Dan, let me know what you think, if it’s worth it to let your readers know about the CIVEAR and I’ll be delighted to help you to better understand this crazy language of mine! Ha ha ha!
Enjoy your Sunday, take care.
Your friend Marcelo.

Well, Marcelo, here you go. It’s here for everyone to see. Thanks for sharing this wonderful information with us.
