Ken Spencer's Black Ventriloquist Figure– Where are you??

Ken Spencer & Ventriloquist Figures

I thought I would throw this out to everyone reading the blog. Yesterday I showed the latest Ken Spencer figure to arrive here in the Ventriloquist Central collection. He is a great character for sure but Ken also created some really great Black figures as well.

If you look at his picture here listed with the Ken Spencer figures in the Ventriloquist Central collection you will see a wonderful black figure sitting inside the barrel. I have no idea where that particular figure is residing and thought I would throw this out to you and see if anyone knows his whereabouts.

Ken also listed in his list of characters that he created a figure called Rastus. I have yet to come across this figure either. Where are they and did he really make them??

Ken Spencer a Great Ventriloquist Figure Maker

MVC-017S
All Original Spencer Ventriloquist Figure

One of the Best Ventriloquist Figure Makers of the past was Ken Spencer. I was chatting with Ray Guyll and we both came up with a great line about this makers figures and it goes something like this: A Ken Spencer figure shouts,”Hey I am a dummy so come pick me up and make me talk.”

That being said I am happy to show you a Ken Spencer Figure which has come to reside in the Ventriloquist Central Collection.

This figure is a full size standing 40″ tall. He has slot jaw, raising eyebrow, fright wig, rolling winker/blinker eyes and side to side eyes by weights. His controls are all smooth and work great. He is also all original as far as paint and wig. Just the way I like to find them.

I hope you enjoy seeing this remarkably sweet character.

Ventriloquist and Figure Builder, Foy E. Brown

FoyBrown
Ventriloquist & Figure Maker, Foy Brown

A regular contributor to Ventriloquist Central, George Boosey, and his friend Todd Oliver, together wrote a wonderful article about the late figure maker Foy Brown.

Both George and Todd were personal friends of Foy Brown and both spent time with him especially Todd. They both have and use figures made by Foy Brown and the article that they put together is wonderful because it is from letters written by Foy to them so the story is really in Foy’s own words. This is one article that is a must read.

Thanks from me to both of you George Boosey and Todd Oliver for giving us this great article.

Sorry, Ventriloquist Central Computer Broke

My laptop is broke. I’m not a computer guy (like Steve) so I took it in to the place I bought it and they are fixing it (luckily I bought the extended warranty).

So, sorry to say, not much of a blog today. I’m having to use my son, Jason’s computer and I’m too use to using mine. It’s amazing how much we depend on our computers.

I have sent stuff to Steve so that tomorrow, we’ll be back on track with our regular informative blogs.

Sorry…..and thanks for your understanding.

Ventriloquist David Erskine Collection

003 3

David Erskine is one of the main stays of ventriloquism history. He has written many articles for the Oracle Magazine and was a great personal friend of W.S. Berger and I am happy to say is a great friend of mine today.

Over the years David amassed a great collection of ventriloquial material including figures, books, posters and ephemera. He did however have to sell off some of his great collection when he moved not to long ago. But…as luck would have it, he took some great photographs of his collection prior to moving and sent them to me so that I could share his collection with the ventriloquist community. So take a few moments and look at his fine collection. If you look real close you will see a couple figures that now even reside in my collection.

Thanks David for sharing with us.
