I hate to say it but unfortunately our politicians on both sides of the isle just have no clue as to how we the regular folk are fairing in these economic times. We keep hearing from them that we have left the recession behind and are doing fine. Housing prices climbing yadda yadda yadda. I just wish they really opened their eyes. The economists, who also earn 6 figure incomes, just have no clue.

This brings me to the topic of the blog. Prices on Ventriloquist figures have not changed much over the past five years. Especially on the secondary market. You really have to think hard about trying to re coupe a full price on a figure if the maker is still producing same.

I think it is safe to say that most of you have never heard of Len James the ventriloquist figure builder. He actually went from England to Toronto Canada where he set up shop. I too have to say until I became friends with Fred Anderson of Canada I also had never heard of Len James.

Fred became a ventriloquist in the 1950’s and it was from Len James that he purchased his first pro vent figure head. This was back in 1955. A year later he purchased a second head. Fred did use the first one for a long time but didn’t really use the second.

This particular topic has been discussed and hashed over many times but unfortunately for me it again has reared its ugly head. I was contacted by a relatively new person to ventriloquism and this time it is not a child but an adult. He wanted to know if a conversion figure was a professional figure.

Wow what do I say. The answer is a two edge blade. A professional figure is a figure that a performer uses and makes money. In that case the figure as well as performer is a pro. No questioning that. If it is making money it is professional.
