Information on Ventriloquist Canfield Smith from Docterry McGrath

Ventriloquist Canfield Smith

Quite a while ago I aquired a Marshall figure made for Canfield Smith from Philadelphia but I had no other information on this ventriloquist.

I am happy to say that Docterry McGrath happened on to the Ventriloquist Central web site and then sent in this little bit of information about Canfield.

Concerning Canfield Smith and his figure Snodgrass: My grandfather was Joseph A. McGrath, who with George Phillips made up Phillips and McGrath booking agents, out of Philadelphia. Cannie ( as Canfield was known by his friends) was a great friend of Pops (as my Grandfather was known) and frequently visited our home in Drexel Hill PA…I remember being afraid for Snodgrass when I was young….. Canfield and Snodgrass opened a “Pub” in 1947 called the Blue Room…I have a ’78 rpm recording sent to my Dad from opening night…as he was in Salina Kansas in the service at the time. Thanks for these refreshing memories…Docterry

Thanks, Docterry for sending me this information.
