Howard “Doc” Dougherty’s Marshall Update

DSCN2528[1]

I kept looking at Willie, Doc’s Frank Marshall figure and it was bothering me that his wig was in such a mess so I removed it from his head and decided to wash it.

I used luke warm water and woolite but the wig was just in such bad condition that it just fell apart. I was a bit dismayed but went into my wig stash and found the right wig for him.

Also there were some rather prevalent dings and dongs on his nose and cheeks and I also decided I had to make those kind of go away. I really didn’t want to do a re paint because the original paint is so nice but I did blend in the minor spots and he looks so much nicer mow.

Also his hands were way to big for him and I just happened to have a perfect size original pair of the right period Frank Marshall hands and they are even in the original paint. A few minutes and the new “old” hands are now on the original body and certainly make him a lot more correct. The jumbo hands were actually made by Foy Brown and were so marked on the inside of the wrist with Foy’s FEB stamp.

So now Willie is a complete Frank Marshall figure in amazing condition once again and is a great addition to the Ventriloquist Central Collection.

Hands look same as a hand off of an early Marshall walker that I sent to you http://digital.library.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metapth61033/m1/56/?q=lee

if a wig is mangled up and is in knots, one way I have tried and works is water and fabric softner, it takes a while but a comb or brush will then ease into the hair and keep it from fraying or getting it back to it’s true form

  4. Sharon says:

Maybe try combing it out? I know it’s hard but just be gentle!

  5. Dan says:

As I said in the blog I did in fact try to wash the wig with warm water and woolite. Very gentle but it fell apart. I could not save it so I had to replace same. It bothered me that I could not save it but thems the breaks!!!
