Frank Marshall’s “Nosey” Jerry Mahoney

winch7

All of us in the ventriloquist world love Jerry Mahoney as a character and in our minds we always picture Jerry the way Paul Winchell redid him with his heavy eyebrows and heavy eye liner.

But this picture (above) shows Jerry the way Paul purchased him from Frank Marshall. You can see he has the very thin eyebrows, almost no eyeliner and the wig is the standard style Frank used on his figures.

This is the Nosey figure right out of Frank’s 1931 catalogue and I love seeing how he looked originally. This figure also has the leather under the chin.

So which way do you like Jerry?

Original form or as Paul redid him?

I am a proud owner of a Nosey replica created by ventriloquist central. I show visitors the catalog from 1931 and compare it to my dummy. It’s a great history lesson

Dan, or to anybody who may want to answer…

Does this original Jerry have winkers/blinkers? And about what year did Winch stop using the orig Marshall (and replace it with his version of Jerry)?

    Thanks.

  3. Dan says:

Ony no winkers / blinkers, I am not sure of the exact year but I believe he was modifying in the mid 1940’s.
