Back in the early 1950’s Jimmy Nelson was making a rather big name for himself and he and Danny O’ Day became the spokesmen for Texaco gas. At that time Jimmy released a figure of Danny O’ Day all dressed in his Texaco outfit. This is one of those extremely rare dolls I am offering for sale.
You will see these for sale on the bid auction site and they will sell in deplorable shape with incomplete outfits, and always go in the $150.00 area. When you see them complete they will sell in the $400.00 area and if they are in mint condition they bring $1000.00 or more. The reason is the heads and hands were done in composition and they always deteriorated with age. Cracks and peeling of the composition and paint is a big problem they had.
This fellow is in near mint condition. No cracks in the composition, no paint loss, and the suit is complete with all the original Texaco patches and hat. The hat is always missing and if you do find the hat most of the time the Texaco label is missing. Not this one. It does have 2 problems if you want to call them problems. The rubber band is gone ( deteriorated away ) so the mouth will close when you pull the original string but as I said band is missing. And he is without shoes. They were made of paper and almost never survived.
