Last week I told you about Austin Phillips and his visit here to see the Ventriloquist Central Collection (if you missed that blog, click here). We showed you a picture of Austin with a ventriloquist figure he built.

Because of all the questions about Austin’s figure ” Rocko”, he sent me these pictures so you all could see his figure better than the one picture that I took.

Here are some photos Dan!

He has leather winkers done in the Insull style, basswood head/pine hands, wooden “McElroy style knee caps.

Be on the look out for another one or two basswood figures by myself for sale online this summer/at the Ventriloquist Central Birthday Bash!

You’re the best,
Austin

As you can see, Austin was very creative working the wood for his very first ventriloquist figure and I think he did a wonderful job!!

Very nice! Who are Austin’s influences in figure making? Any photos of his controls?

Congratulations Austin on your fine carving of basswood & mechanizing your figure. Keep up the great work; will look forward to your next creations !

  3. Austin Phillips says:

Thanks guys! I am influenced by Marshall, Ray Guyll, and Insull. I’ll see if I can get a picture of the head stick up, but it is the exact same set up as the Al Semok Figure used in the movie “Dummy.” When I started carving this figure a few years back, I went into it with the intentions of making the look very similar to the figure used in the movie “Dummy.” Thanks for the input guys!

Also, as stated above, I’m going to be hopefully releasing one or two more basswood figures for sale this summer, similar in size, movements and carved in the same classic cheeky boy style.

  4. Ray Guyll says:

Really nice work Austin!! I’ll look forward to seeing you and him in October!!
