Open Wide and Say AHH!!!

It has been my pleasure this past week to have had a visit here in Boston from the extraordinary Ventriloquist Dummy Builder and repair man Lee Dunn. He arrived here last week and spent the Thanksgiving holiday with Helen and me.

He was like a kid in a candy shop being able to pick up and handle any of the figures and even open some of the heads and inspect the inner workings. I too was thrilled because it was my chance to get a few things repaired that had been sitting for a while.

If you look at the Frank Marshall collection you will find the figure (Theodore F. Peckerwood) that looks almost like Frank Byron Jr. used by the Great Lester.

This Marshall figure happens to have wiggling ears but on one side the cord had slipped off of the pulley and was caught behind it causing the ear to not really work quite right. I certainly knew what was wrong but had no way of opening the head because the paint is all original and I did not want to have the paint spoiled by this procedure.

Lee said he could do the job. It took him quite some time and he was successful in replacing the cord onto the pulley so that the ear works fine now. All I could think of was that the figure had a dental appointment. So look at the pictures and just imagine trying to do this repair!!

Ventriloquist Figure Collecting Series -The McElroy "Troll"

I’ve heard comments from ventriloquists who think that of all the figures the McElroy brothers created, the so called “Troll” is their least favorite.

I have to say I really like this little guy. Check out this video:

Plagiarism It Hurts

Plagiarism is one thing that really urks me. I have often wondered how people can take someone else’s words and pass them off as their own. We have seen this repeatedly in ventriloquism with stealing of jokes and routines. Johnny Main, rest his soul, performed at the Vent Haven convention and the next year others were doing his schtik so he never performed on stage there again.

I myself was pleasantly surprised to find I had been plagiarized today buy someone selling a figure on ebay. He actually took my add copy for a ventriloquist figure I am selling and used it to describe his own figure. I did in fact email to let him know it upset me but I am sure he will leave it up.

I just found this interesting and thought I would share my thoughts with everyone.

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, From Ventriloquist Central

Back in 2006, when Steve and I decided to put together this website, we never imagined how popular Ventriloquist Central would become. Sure, we wanted to supply everyone with information dealing with ventriloquists and ventriloquism, but didn’t think it would take off the way it has. In fact, below is proof:

google-insights-ventriloquist-central

This is a screen shot of just one of the tools Steve uses to see how the site is doing. It’s a tool called Google Insights and as you can see for the past two years, Ventriloquist Central is “breaking out” in the rising searches category.

We just want to say a big ‘THANK YOU” to all of you who support and visit this website. We’re glad you are enjoying Ventriloquist Central.

Also, you may have noticed that we are starting to accept sponsorship (or advertising) on this site. Even though we started Ventriloquist Central as a “labor of love” the popularity of the site has started to create extra costs for us to keep it going.

If you want to get on board with our popularity and advertise your goods or services, please take time to check out this page:

Sponsorship Opportunities

Once again, thanks so much for all your support.
