I’m sure everyone who reads this blog knows about ventriloquist Taylor Mason. According to his website and Facebook, he is a very busy performer.

A couple of years ago, Taylor had a book published, “The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Ventriloquism.” Since I’m only an enthusiast of ventriloquism and love the art, my partner Steve (who is a ventriloquist) thought he would do a review of Taylor’s book.

Now you may be asking yourself, why are you doing a review of his book two years later? Stay tuned for tomorrow’s blog for the answer to that question.

Here’s Steve’s review:

My Ventriloquist Collecting Mentor, W.S. Berger

ws berger

Over the past few years I have spoken about collecting and how once you get bitten with the collecting bug it does overtake you and nothing will get in your way when in search for the elusive items for your collection.

This again is true, as I have said, about anything which you collect be it coins, stamps, cars or ventriloquist figures.

I also have been challenged quite a number of time by others that say I have taken the ability of any one else from owning an antique figure. Unfortunately those that think that way are totally wrong.

Effanbee Charlie McCarthy Toy Ventriloquist Figures

I have done a couple videos showing the Effanbee Charlie McCarthy dolls from the 1930’s but had no done pictures until now.

The only true Charlie McCarthy that was made as a doll or toy, licensed by Edgar Bergen are those that were made by the Effanbee Co. They released the Charlie McCarthy figure in two sizes a twenty inch and a fifteen inch. They were all marked on the back of the neck Edgar Bergen’s Charlie McCarthy an Effanbee Product. If you have a toy Charlie McCarthy and that is not marked as such on the back of the neck it is not a Charlie and not an Effanbee product.

The Best Sitting Ventriloquist Body

Everyone thinks I have all the answers to anything ventriloquial and I do try to answer everyone who asks me a question no matter what the question happens to be.

How a ventriloquist figure sits is something I am asked all the time because of the size of my collection.

So thinking about the Ventriloquist Central Collection I have to say that the bodies that were made by Madeline Maher sit better than all the other figures. I think it is because when these bodies were made, on the front of the body the lower board extended forward where the legs are, about 2 1/2″ on to which each leg the stuffed muslin, is attached. With this method it becomes almost impossible for the figure to fall forward.

New Sponsor for Ventriloquist Central – Scott Land

scott land

We wanted to take a moment and welcome a new sponsor to Ventriloquist Central, the Puppeteer to the Stars, Scott Land.

Scott Land is a puppeteer at the top of his game. His seasoned performing skills are on display in nearly every scene of Paramount Pictures’ Team America: World Police. During the making of the movie-the most expensive puppet-driven feature film ever produced-Scott did more than pull the strings on dozens of lead characters.
