Ventriloquist Figures and Their Shoes

For the most part the size of most full size ventriloquist figures run between 38 and 42 inches in length. I have found that the size of shoes that fit best with figures of this size are about seven inches in length from heel to toe. Flea markets and yard sales will turn up some great children’s shoes which work great. I myself really try to stay away from sneakers. Just my preference. I like leather shoes.

Cases For Ventriloquist Figures

There has been much talk concerning the right type of case for your hard ventriloquist figure. Some of the makers today sell cases such as Maher and Selberg and you can also go to Walmart or KMart and purchase a trunk and line it with foam and it will work fine. These are all great ways to go but I just wanted to throw something else out there.

Fred and Ethel Restore Or Not?

Again Steve and I bantered back and forth about restoration of figures and the duo of Fred & Ethel came up (from yesterday’s blog…click here if you missed it).

As I’ve stated I am a purist and really hate to touch a vintage piece that still shows very well and Fred and Ethel fit that bill. They could stand in the Ventriloquist Central Collection and look great just the way they are showing all the flaws of both time and being handled.

Fred and Ethel Mertz Come To Ventriloquist Central Collection

Every once in a while an interesting email comes to me and this one was just that. A dealer from Florida contacted me because he said he had a pair of large ventriloquist figures and thought I may be interested. He sent me pictures and when I opened the first picture all I could say to myself was,” That’s Fred & Ethel Mertz.” Now that really is not who they are but I have decided that is who they are now.
