The Best Sitting Ventriloquist Body

Everyone thinks I have all the answers to anything ventriloquial and I do try to answer everyone who asks me a question no matter what the question happens to be.

How a ventriloquist figure sits is something I am asked all the time because of the size of my collection.

So thinking about the Ventriloquist Central Collection I have to say that the bodies that were made by Madeline Maher sit better than all the other figures. I think it is because when these bodies were made, on the front of the body the lower board extended forward where the legs are, about 2 1/2″ on to which each leg the stuffed muslin, is attached. With this method it becomes almost impossible for the figure to fall forward.

Stuffed legs and wood or cast lower legs add weight to the front of the figure and will cause it to be unbalanced making sitting alone very precarious at best. Not so with the Maher style body.

I love Marshall’s bodies as being the perfect size and shape but they do not sit anywhere near as nice as the Maher body.

Even the lesson on building your own figure that used to be included in the Maher course did it that way. In fact, all the material that used to be offered by Maher Studios about figure building showed it that way. “If it’s not broke, don’t fix it.”
