Special Seating for a Special Charlie McCarthy

As the Ventriloquist Central Collection was growing I made a concerted effort to make sure I followed the rules set down for me by Helen which were that no figures were to be outside of the room which was designated as The Ventriloquist Central Collection. Up until a few days ago I followed that rule to a “T”. Not one figure, not even Happy Hazzard came out of the collection room.

As I stated in a blog back a few weeks ago I was so excited unpacking the Charlie McCarthy that Bob Isaacson carved. Charlie is one of my favorite characters and I can never watch enough footage of him in the old films and of course the radio shows are hilarious. That Charlie, what a character.

Well Charlie sat in the middle of the pool table away from all the other figures until I just could not stand it any longer. You see I have this great TV room which is 25 feet long and 10 feet wide. Of course the TV is at one end and towards the middle of the room is my couch and on the wall opposite the couch I have 2 antique Chinese stands. I thought to myself boy Charlie would look great sitting on one of those stands looking so smug at me. That was it. I cleared off the stand and sat Charlie there and I have to tell you this SPECIAL Charlie Mccarthy looks fantastic in his SPECIAL place in the TV room.

Helen even saw him sitting there and even though she had some words for me, I will tell that story to you sometime, he is still sitting in his special place. I love him.

    And the invasion begins!

  2. LeeDean says:

Looks more like Charlie than McCarthy himself. Hope he is strapped down on that table, Dan. The film Cradle Will Rock was on television couple days ago and the scene of the Semok figure on stage by itself sitting on the stand and falling off of it brought this to mind.

  3. Bob Isaacson says:

Dan, I must admit, Charlie does look great in his special spot; I’ll bet he’s a happy lad. thanks for placing him there & of course thanks to Helen ( the real CEO) of Ventriloquist Central.

  4. Nick Ortiz says:

Dan , Cherish that tresure as I know you will it is purely fantastic.

  5. Philip Grecian says:

That is the best Charlie reproduction I believe I’ve ever seen.

At what point, Dan, will your VC room just be too small for that amazing collection?

  6. Lee he is secured so he will not fall but that is hidden. Thanks for the concern. Phil I have been working constantly to make more room for additions which continue to arrive. Soon I will be attaching chairs to the ceiling! LOL

  7. George Boosey says:

A fine-looking figure, well-deserving of his special place in the home of the Ventriloquist Central Collection. I’m sure Mr. Bergen would be as proud as Mr. Isaacson.

  8. Tom Wozniak says:

This is one beautiful Charlie replica. I might almost like him more than the one I had made by one of the “heavy hitters” in figure making. Mr. Isaacson did an amazing job.

Bob did a great job for you. this is the first time I have been to your site. So happy to find it. I have not been to venthaven for some years now. Bob and Mark Wade and others have saw my Frank Marshall figure. I will send you a pic soon. I think you will like to see it. It has his buss. card on the inside of his head. And is of unusal size. Again so happy to find this site. Keep it up.

  10. Dan, Charlie is great Bob should be proud. However I think it would be better if you had one of those small chairs between the tables perhaps on a platform to raise Charlie slightly but not as high as the table sits him so close to the artwork in the wall. Of course Helen gets to pick the chair. This to will keep you from being tempted to fill the other “seat” with a Jerry Mahoney figure.

  11. Matt Kimbro says:

He looks fantastic. Looks like the REAL Charlie! Bob is such a talent and you were smart to buy that figure. I couldn’t think of a better place for him.
