Nick, you are not right, but you are quite close… This is not Wences but his brother, Felipe Moreno, with his “Loro (parrot) Kike”… Like Wences, Felipe was a bullfighter before becoming a ventriloquist and juggler… As a matter of fact, they were copying each other’s acts through all their lives… Felipe used a “Johnny” type of puppet too, called “Ciriaquito”. Both brothers were doing basically the same stuff. Felipe was a great painter, I saw many of his clown portraits and they are really good. He was a musician too, playing his guitar for his own entertainment. While Wences was working in USA and Europe, Felipe preferred to perform mostly in Spain. There is a lot of information about him in the lovely spanish book “Un mes con el circo” (“One month with the circus”) from 1955.

    thanks they sure look alike

Thanks for sharing this! I noticed a LOT of similarity between this puppet & Senor Wences’ chicken puppet “Cecilia”. Senor made all his own puppets, so, maybe he made this for his brother. I am friends with Senor Wences’ granddaughter {a wonderful person!}, & she informed me that Senor was NOT a matador as has been so often claimed. As for them doing the same act, that’s no different than Houdini did. He supplied his brother “Hardeen” with a copy of his act also. Senor’s nephew Louis Moreno is also a vent, & has some videos on youtube. they are in Spanish, so I don’t understand the words, but the entertainment still comes through!
