Frank Marshall's Heart Shaped Lips for Ventriloquist Figures

I have been studying the Frank Marshall figures in the Ventriloquist Central Collection and have come to the conclusion that Mr Marshall had a most definite way of painting in the lips on his creations.

He used what I have termed the heart shaped upper lip. This shape on the upper lip gives the lip a shape unlike most other figures that you will see.

Although in reality this shape does not exist on the lip I think Marshall did this to make the lip stand out from the stage. I also think that it gave the face a smile without the mouth being in a smile form.

Click here to see the Marshall figures and check this out for yourself.

This form dates back to his earliest creations just take a look at the figure in the Frank Marshall figures labeled “Earliest Fgure” and you will see this heart shape.

One Response to Frank Marshall's Heart Shaped Lips for Ventriloquist Figures

I noticed early on that Marshall figure main features are exaggerated with exaggerations in proportion, including lips and eyes. Some have called them “wide-headed”, but whatever, it was his design and using all the clefts and dimples as a part of the motif, including what we all call around here the snot-trough, that cleft below nose to those heart-shaped lips, avoiding hairlip effect by the purposed “V” shape at center of upper lip. I only wish that he had cut that shape into the metal band used when installing an upper lip movement, which he could have done and maybe would have in time like he figured out his own special way of doing the moving eyebrows.
