Austin Phillips Visits Ventriloquist Central

DSCN2954[1]

Austin Phillips is an up and coming vent figure builder and is doing it the old fashioned way with hammer and chisel. Today, when he came to see me, he asked if we could use the duplicarver machine so I of course said yes.

Here are a few pictures.

Cool, do we get to see the head when it comes off the dupli-carver? I’m sure many of us have never seen one in action, or what an item looks like right off the machine.

Hey Dan & Austin…great to show the duplicarver to folks. Not many chances to see one in action used for carving a Vent head. Austin is a very talented young man & he will certainly use the duplicarver to make a wonderful character head. Hope you can continue this story & story the progression of the carving. I’m sure all will be interested. Why heck, even you Dan , might learn something, I know I will .HA HA. thanks much !

I think I noticed 3 things missing. There should be 2 small tables with 4 holes one in each corner which are plastic lined. The small tables pivot on the big table upon which the block of wood is attached on one and on the other the master. The 2 small tables are connected by a piece of metal which has two pins in the bar of metal which allows the head master and block of wood to stay in sync with each other and allow one to copy all sides of the master. The bar with the 2 pins are placed in the appropriate holes in the 2 small tables on the large platform. I could provide pictures if you need.

Wow, I’ve never even SEEN a duplicarver, only read about them. This should be a whole series of moving footage posts so we can see how one works and how long it takes. Excellent! Thanks, Dan!
